Definition
one of the most popular brands of rolling papers. The Zig-Zag brand produces smoke related products such as rolling papers, cones and other accessories. According to the company's website, the idea originated with a French soldier in the Crimean War in the 1800's.
After the soldier's trusted smoking pipe was destroyed by a stray bullet, needing a smoke more than ever now, he tore a piece of paper from an ammunition bag and rolled a cigarette. I guess necessity really is the mother of invention. Two Frenchmen, the Braunstein Brothers, later trademarked the name Zig-Zag in 1906 as the name of their newly formed company which specialized in the mass production of cigarette rolling papers.
Like the Phillie's brand for blunt smokers, Zig Zag, along with Bambú, became the paper of choice for sheet smokers for years.
